Strategy Centralizes Network Equipment
A new approach to network management, Centralized Network Administration (CNA) takes advantage of the high reliability and longer data transmission distances afforded by fiber optics. The Premises Systems and Services group of AMP, Inc., promises that CNA will lower operating costs by centralizing all network equipment -- such as hubs, switches and routers -- in a single location. This strategy reduces the time it takes to add, move or change components. CNA utilizes fiber for larger installations, allowing 300-meter runs from the equipment center to work areas. At 300 meters, standard multimode fiber supports data rates of up to 2.5 Gbps. Based on early customer adoption, the firm estimates that organizations can realize typical annual cost savings of $175 per end user through reductions in administrative overhead and cable-related network outages.
