League for Innovation Awarded 1.1 Million to Create Learning Colleges

Beginning this month, the League For Innovation will direct a new $1.1 million, three-year Learning College Project. Ten community colleges from the United States and Canada, selected on a competitive basis, will participate in the project. Learning Colleges are institutions that place learning first and provide varied and accessible educational experiences for learners. Learning Colleges use technology to expand learning options, provide channels for active learning, and flexibly address different learning styles.

The League for Innovation has emerged in higher education as a leading proponent of the Learning College. Through its Learning Initiative, the League is working to increase awareness, frame issues, identify models, and encourage pilot programs regarding the Learning College concept.

This month, announcements inviting community colleges to apply for one of ten Vanguard College positions in the Learning College Project will be sent to all community colleges in the United States and Canada.
