Card Provides Wi-Fi Wireless Networking

Lucent Technologies Micr'electronics Group has announced the availability of the ORiNOCO Mini-PCI radio card, a fully-featured Wi-Fi compliant wireless networking device that can be embedded in notebooks or mobile computing devices. The Mini-PCI card is a compact version of the standard PCI card and eliminates the need for a separate PC card accessory. The card functions at 2.4 Ghz, with a data rate of 11 Mbit/s, and a range of up to 1,200 feet. It is compatible with the entire ORiNOCO line of access points for home, office, outdoor and public hot-spot environments. The Mini-PCI radio will also work with other Wi-Fi compliant wireless networking systems.

Ideally suited for notebooks, Web Pads, Internet appliances and other mobile data applications, the card is only 51 x 60mm in size and weighs 15 grams.
