2003 Conference on Information Technology

The League for Innovation's annual Conference on Information Technology (CIT) offers IT methods to improve teaching and learning, student services and institutional management in higher education. It serves as a showcase for emerging technology applications and provides an environment to connect with fellow educators from around the world. Keynote speakers for this year's CIT include Peter Thompson, marketing director of T-Mobile's Wi-Fi division, who will discuss "Wireless High-Speed Internet Access and Implications for Community Colleges," and Diana Oblinger, executive director of higher education for Microsoft Corp., who will discuss "The Next-Generation Learner." The conference also features a state-of-the-art computer lab with high-speed Internet connections, which is open to participants 24 hours a day. In addition, the conference's "Hands-On Alley" provides testing of hardware and software, as well as training from major companies such as Adobe, Dell, HP, Microsoft and Pearson NCS.

NSBA's T+L2 2003

The National School Boards Association's T+L2 (formerly Technology and Learning) Conference is aimed at teaching educators how to write technology plans, understand connectivity and be excited about the possibilities offered by technology, while focusing on assessment, accountability and closing the achievement gap. The conference also offers a series of workshops to help educators learn about specific aspects of the No Child Left Behind Act. Speakers at this year's conference include Gary Knell, CEO of Sesame Workshop, who will share his knowledge of using various media to help children reach their full educational potentials, and Alan November, renowned educator and education technology advocate, who will share his ideas on self-directed, self-assessing and interdependent diverse learning methods.

Virtual High School Symposium 2003

The fourth annual Virtual High School Symposium provides a hands-on approach for K-12 leaders who are interested in developing or expanding their virtual schools. This year's symposium features John Bailey, director of educational technology for the U.S. Education Department, who will discuss the relevance of NCLB to virtual schools at the national, state and district levels. Other highlights include informational sessions covering topics such as "Best Practices in Online Schools" and "Ensuring Quality of Online Courses." EDUCAUSE 2003

This annual IT event for higher education is loaded with seminars, track sessions, corporate exhibits, workshops, presentations and small-group meetings. EDUCAUSE 2003 sessions include topics such as "IT Funding Strategies," "Web Services and Web-Based Systems" and "Online Student Services." General session speakers include Richard A. Clarke, a former presidential advisor, and Shirley Ann Jackson, the former chair of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. EDUCAUSE also offers a panel focusing on one of today's hottest topics: "Peer-to-Peer File Sharing: Looking for Win-Win Solutions." This panel features such notable figures as Jack Valenti, president and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America; Mara Liasson, national political correspondent for National Public Radio; and Cary Sherman, president of the Recording Industry Association of America.
