Online Fitness Resource Supports PE Teachers

With youth obesity on the rise, today's physical education instructors have a lot to address. To help better develop their curriculum, PE teachers can now find an abundance of information and resources online at PE Central (www.pecentral.com).

Geared for preK-12 educators, PE Central offers alternative lesson plans and ideas about physical fitness to help guide teachers in promoting healthy activity for their students. Teachers can find information about nutrition and health, as well as links to outside resources on the Web site. PE Central also enables educators to search for and submit lesson plans, as well as take advantage of assessment resources.

In addition, the site offers resources for adaptive physical education for teachers of students with disabilities. For students, PE Central has interactive guides to keep track of their physical activity, with features to set daily goals and compare activity levels with their peers. Most important, PE Central has a section dedicated to professional information for teachers that offers links to state standards and advice on helping PE teachers defend their programs when faced with budget cuts.
