  • AOL Donates Computer Lab to Detroit School

    AOL is creating the Detroit Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Technology AOL Computer Lab at Hutchins Middle School. The lab will feature 30 computers and an ergonomic, innovatively designed classroom that will be housed in the middle school. The classroom is being designed through a collaborative effort that includes input from teachers and students. The official announcement was made last Thursday at the school by actor Tom Arnold who was in Detroit for the Super Bowl.

  • SMARTer Kids Foundation Seeking North American Teachers for 2006-2007 Connections Program

    The SMARTer Kids Foundation of Canada is now accepting applications for its 2006-2007 Connections program, a fully funded collaborative learning program for sixth-grade classes from across North America. Eight selected teachers will have their classrooms outfitted with leading-edge education technology, and will be trained to use the technology so they can undertake collaborative projects with other participating teachers and classes. Applications must be received by March 31, 2006.

  • GenYES Offers Low-Cost Training Through Education Service Center in San Antonio

    Generation YES Corp. and Education Service Center, Region 20, in San Antonio, TX, has announced a partnership to offer low-cost local training and support for the GenYES model of professional development in Region 20 schools and districts. GenYES offers technology training for students who work with teachers in their own schools to integrate technology into classroom lessons. In this new partnership, schools in Region 20 will receive training and support for their GenYES programs directly from Service Center staff, thereby lowering costs and improving sustainability.

  • Edmonton Public Schools Automate Document Delivery

    Captaris Inc., a leading provider of business information delivery solutions, has announced that Edmonton Public Schools has integrated Captaris RightFax with its Oracle Purchasing system to enable electronic document delivery of purchase orders, requests for proposals (RFPs) and other financial documents. The RightFax implementation allowed the school district to immediately reduce time spent sending documents by 75 percent, as well as cut maintenance and telephony expenses.

The site, which is designated as an NSTA Resource and listed in the ISTE and edNA Year of Physics 2005 directories, provides a stimulating journey into Sir Isaac Newton's discoveries and secret life. Students will learn about color, optical illusions, observations from nature, and other fascinating facts. There are also several lessons regarding copyright and censorship issues, as well as a Newton Timeline.
