  • Missouri School District Receives $250,000 Best Buy Teach Award

    The Kansas City, MO, School District (KCMSDß) was recently named the 2006 recipient of the $250,000 Best Buy Teach Award for demonstrating exceptional creative use of interactive technology to help make learning fun for its K-12 students. The district was selected for the top honor based on the strength of its ROOTS (Reaching Out with Opportunities in Technology for Students) program, a districtwide initiative to deliver more authentic learning experiences for students through use of consumer electronics. The $250,000 Teach Award will fund the initial implementation of ROOTS at three KCMSD schools.

  • Gow School, CDW-G Prepare Dyslexic Students for Success With 1-to-1 Laptop Initiative

    The internationally renowned Gow School in South Wales, N.Y., the world’s oldest boarding school for boys with dyslexia and language-based learning differences, has selected CDW-G as the school’s partner for Technology at Gow (TAG), a 1-to-1 laptop computing initiative. The technology will complement and enhance the school’s unique Reconstructive Language program and its newly developed Constructive Writing program, ensuring that the Gow School continues to provide a powerful 21st-century learning experience that prepares its students for college and beyond.

  • Franklin Road Academy Upgrades Campus With ADC’s CopperTen Cable

    Nashville, TN-based Franklin Road Academy, a preK-12 college preparatory school, recently announced that it is installing ADC’s CopperTen Cable as part of a massive construction and renovation that includes a new math and science building, a new library and technology center, and extensive campuswide technology upgrades. The renovations are expected to be complete when students return to school later this month. With the installation of CopperTen, the world’s first Augmented Category 6 cabling solution, Franklin Road Academy will be at the technological forefront of the country’s best academic institutions.

  • LearnKey Training Included in New Mexico Laptop Initiative

    LearnKey Inc., a global provider of online learning systems, has announced that its “IC3: Internet & Computing Core Certification 2005 Standard” course will be included in 1,544 HP laptop computers being provided to New Mexico seventh-graders and teachers. The IC3 course is imaged on all the laptop computers that are a part of this initiative. Students will be able to use this multimedia program to become more confident in their ability to use the latest technology associated with computers and essential software application features. It also prepares students to take the IC3 Certification from Certiport, a world-recognized standard for fundamental computer literacy. Students can access the program either online through the Internet or offline through a CD.

  • N.C. School Administrator to lead Weatherly District as Superintendent

    Robert Freeman, who was director of staff development for Robeson County Schools, a district in south-central North Carolina, was just hired as Weatherly Area School District’s new superintendent. As superintendent, he will oversee an 800-student district that operates on a $10 million budget. Freeman will replace Superintendent Kathleen Makuch, who plans to retire next month. He will be the district’s fifth superintendent in about a decade.

The new store allows educators to search more than 6,000 titles by subject, grade level, or product type. “Internet Literacy – Making the Most of the Web,” is a new online course for educators interested in using the World Wide Web in teaching and learning.
