Spanish Math Program Goes Online for Free

Heritage of America Educational & Cultural Foundation has launched a beta Web site for its Spanish-language mathematics program for grades 1-3. The site is making the APREMAT (Aprendamos Mathematica) audio math instruction program available via podcast to any student free of charge. APREMAT/USA is a Spanish radio-based math instruction program that is used by more than a million students in five Latin American countries. The APREMAT program was created in 1998 to help Spanish-speaking students who need to improve their level of math achievement. The program consists of 450 (150 each for grades 1, 2 and 3) 24-28 minute Spanish-language math lessons that are broadcast free via commercial radio. Great Source Launches Site With Educational Writing Resources

Great Source, a division of Houghton Mifflin Co., has launched iwrite, a Web site that provides educators, students, and parents with helpful writing resources. Educators will find tutorials, templates, and mini-lessons on iwrite for all major forms of writing: narrative, expository, persuasive, research report, and response to literature. The site’s “Ask the Expert” feature links educators with Houghton Mifflin authors for prompt feedback on writing pedagogy, assessment, and lesson plans. “The Buzz” includes articles that highlight what’s new in writing instruction. Additional resources for educators include a collection of writing prompts to jump-start classroom activities, links to state writing standards, and rubrics based on the six traits of writing.
