01.24.2007—Ignite! Learning this week announced that its Curriculum On Wheels (COW) is now implemented in more than 10,000 science and social studies classes in the United States. Curriculum On Wheels offers comprehensive curricula for middle school and elementary instruction and is aligned to state standards.

Science and Social Studies COWs come with a year's worth of daily curricula, which include lesson plans, activities, unit tests, and media, such as animation, video, images, text, and music.

According to Ignite!, COWs now serve more than 250,00 students in 19 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The company said that in some schools that have implemented its curricula, pass rates for standardized testing have increased 20 percent to 40 percent.

"For example, after the Science COW was used for one semester at Burnet Elementary in the Midland Independent School District [in Texas], the test scores for Burnet's economically disadvantaged population increased from a 67 percent passing rate in 2005 to 87 percent in 2006," Ignite! announced. "According to Burnet Principal Kellie Ebenstein, those increases are 29 percent higher than similar students in the region based on the Accountability Data Tables from The Texas Education Agency."

The turnkey COW system includes computer hardware, a projector and speakers in addition to the curricula and materials themselves.
