Cisco To Upgrade 8 More Jefferson Parish Schools

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

01.29.2007—According to Cisco Systems, eight additional schools in Jefferson Parish in Louisiana will receive technology upgrades through Cisco's 21st Century Schools Program, doubling the initial number. The goal of the program is to "revamp" technology implementations in underperforming schools impacted by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

For the program, Cisco has provided $40 million, which is used to implement new technologies, online curriculum materials, and professional development tools. It originally launched in 2005 in 33 schools in Mississippi, and, according to Cisco, models developed in that initial launch will be used to guide implementation in Jefferson Parish schools.

New schools added to the program include Ella Dolhonde Elementary, Harahan Elementary, Riverdale High, Riverdale Middle, Allen Ellender Middle, Congetta Trippe Janet Elementary, Helen Cox High, and Ella C. Pittman Elementary.

Cisco said that a comprehensive planning process is underway (and nearly completed) to "determine the technology and training that meets [the schools'] needs." Installations will begin in 2007.
