Blue Lane Debuts VirtualShield for VMware

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

3/15/2007—Blue Lane Technologies has released a new security utility for VMware called VirtualShield. The tool, developed in cooperation with VMware, is designed to provide protection for the VMware Infrastructure 3 platform.

According to Blue Lane, VirtualShield protects virtual servers "from attacks against known, unpatched vulnerabilities" in VMware and "protects guest virtual machines running on VMware ESX Server hosts."

"Vulnerability shields are a promising approach to mitigating the security risks of today's IT environments," said Brian Byun, vice president of global partners and solutions at VMware, in a prepared statement. "Blue Lane's VirtualShield brings the benefits of vulnerability shields to VMware environments and gives our customers another option for securing their virtual infrastructure in ways that are simpler and more effective than those available for their physical environments."

VirtualShield is designed to protect virtualized servers regardless of patch level or location; configuration-free protection updates; the ability to block remote threats without blocking legitimate application requests; and protection for specific applications without any "manual tuning."

The software is available now for download. It runs $499 for a year per VMware Infrastructure 3 hypervisor (two processors/cores), including a year of updates and online support. A 45-day evaluation is also available.
