World Book Launches Education Site for Earth Day
##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->
4/4/2007—World Book has launched a new site for students in preparation for Earth Day (April 22). The site, Earth: The Living Planet, is designed to provide students and educators with a wide variety of information about the planet, from geophysical and ecological to geographical and historical.
World Book said that the site can be used as a jumping-off point for educators preparing for Earth Day studies. It covers topics like why the Earth is able to support life; how the planet has changed over time; and tangential topics, such as why Earth is considered a planet, while some (confused) people do not consider Pluto to be a planet.
In addition to textual information, the site also provides maps, quizzes, and images, as well as links to relevant external sites reviewed by World Book editors, according to the company. World Book also said that the Earth spotlight site "ties to state curriculum standards."
