Tyler ISD Puts DVRs on School Buses

Tyler Independent School District in Texas is putting digital video recorders on its school buses. No, the DVRs aren't there to let students catch up on the shows they missed while in class. Instead, they're part of a security system for the district that includes cameras and encrypted wireless connections for remote download.
The district awarded the DVR contract to AdComp Systems, also in Texas, which will deploy its Transport Track Wireless DVR system on 130 school buses. The Transport Track Wireless DVR system supports up to four cameras and microphones per system and uses motion detection as a trigger to begin recording. It uses an encrypted wireless connection that allows the district to download videos from the school buses "on demand, as soon as the bus is within range of the bus barn," according to AdComp. It also provides daily reporting for all online cameras.
So far, 50 of the district's buses have had the system installed. The remaining 80 buses should have the systems installed by October.
Tyler ISD, in Northeast Texas, serves about 18,000 students and operates 35 campuses and auxiliary facilities.
