Moto Expands PTP Wireless Bridge Lineup

Motorola has expanded its MOTOwi4 lineup with a new fixed point to point wireless Ethernet bridge: the PTP 25600, a modified version of the PTP 600. The new 2.5 GHz, 300 Mbps solution is targeted toward Educational Broadband Service license holders and is designed to provide secure broadband access for online courses and other instructional programs. It's available now in the United States.
"The ability to provide wireless Internet access and distance learning to our students is the objective of our EBS initiative," said Derrick Hoffman, senior systems engineer at Thompson School District in Colorado. "We have had great success with Motorola's 5.8 GHz product on our existing network, and, as a 2.5 GHz license holder, we look forward to Motorola's 2.5 GHz solution to offer reliable, high bandwidth connectivity to our schools throughout the county. Additionally, we are excited about the product's GPS synchronization feature which will allow us to co-locate more than one radio on a rooftop and reduce self interference."
Motorola said the new PTP 25600 supports backhaul for point to multipoint, WiMAX, and mesh networks; last-mile access; and various other applications, including VoIP, video streaming, and video surveillance connectivity. Features include:
- Multiple-input/multiple-output;
- "Intelligent" orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (i-OFDM);
- Advanced spectrum management;
- A new synchronization feature that uses GPS to synchronize multiple transmitters;
- Support for co-location of multiple radios on a rooftop or tower; and
- Non-LoS capabilities (99.995 percent availability).
The PTP 25600 is designed to integrate with other MOTOwi4 solutions, including Fixed Broadband, WiMAX, Mesh, Broadband Over Powerline (BPL), and enterprise WLAN for public and private networks, according to Motorola.
