Prep School Rolls Out Internet Security System

John Paul II High School, a coeducational Catholic college preparatory school in Plano, TX, has selected Dallas-based DeepNines Technologies' iTrust security platform to control emerging Internet threats.

The school, which recently launched a laptop program that provides students with a computer and access to a campus-wide wireless network, revisited its existing security infrastructure to ensure that it was managing Internet access and enforcing acceptable use policies. To get complete network visibility and insight into its Internet traffic, John Paul II High School participated in the DeepNines Internet Content Audit (ICA) program, which in turn provided the institution with the evidence necessary to make the switch to the more robust security system.

"Giving students access to Internet was necessary to allow them to truly benefit from our technology-oriented curriculum, however Internet access comes with an added layer of risk," said Kristopher Thurston, technical specialist for the school, in a statement released last week. "With DeepNines iTrust in place as a barrier between our students and the Internet, we are now confident that our students have access to all the good educational content available to them while keeping unsuitable content and applications out."
