iStor Software Update Brings High Availability to iSCSI Storage

iStor Networks has recently released an update to its iSCSI software. The new 2.5 release adds high availability capabilities for iStor's iS512 family of iSCSI storage systems and is available as a free upgrade.

The new edition of the software specifically allows dual-controller iS512 systems to detect malfunctions in the operational controller automatically and to "switch to the redundant controller without loss of data, function or performance," according to iStor.

"This new software capitalized on the patented capabilities of iStor's ASIC technology enabling HA capability with no impact upon system performance before, during or after a controller failure." said Jim Wayda, vice president of software development for iStor. "We believe that this capability is unique in the industry and, for the first time, brings high performance HA solutions for IP SANs within the reach of the SMB market. Customers can now use either multi1GbE or 10GbE versions of iS512 HA solutions in mission critical and business critical applications such as those supporting server virtualization, SQL Server, Exchange and Oracle databases."

iStor's iS512 family includes the integraStor iS512 multi1GbE (gigabit Ethernet) and 10GbE models. The iS512 multi1GbE supports 2 TB to 30 TB of storage via expansion enclosures and provides eight gigabit Ethernet ports with bandwidth up to 890 MBps per controller. The 10GbE model supports the same amount of storage and provides a single port of 10 gigabit Ethernet with bandwidth support up to 1,160 MBps per controller. Both 2U models support up to 12 SAS or SATA drives with two SAS expansion ports for up to 36 drives total.

The new software for these systems is available now as a free upgrade. Further in formation can be found here.
