Texas District Leads Students into Immersive Educational Gaming

Spring Independent School District in Texas is bringing gaming into the classroom. The district this week announced that it's signed on with Tabula Digita to provide mathematics-focused educational gaming for students in nine of its middle schools and high schools, as well as its SMART math and science center.
Tabula's DimensionM games incorporate algebra and pre-algebra lessons into a 3D environment in which players (students) carry out missions (lessons) in single-player or multi-player, tournament-style games. Its objectives are aligned with NCTM standards and correlate with state standards. DimensionM is already in use in classrooms around the country, including schools in California, Florida, Georgia, New York, and others in Texas.
"Spring ISD is always in search of innovative ways to help students learn," said Dalane E. Bouillion, associate superintendent for curriculum and instructional services at Spring ISD. "DimensionM offers a new learning venue that will capture the attention of today's media-oriented children and draw them into their lessons. It will also help us realize our goal of making each classroom a true learning platform, not just a teaching platform."
Spring ISD serves about 33,000 preK-12 students in 32 traditional schools, one virtual school, and the SMART math and science center. DimensionM supports Mac OS X and WIndows systems.
