3D and motion graphics software developer NewTek has debuted a new video production system designed specifically for elementary and middle school students.

Dubbed TriCaster Duo, the new system is designed as a live, portable, cost-effective edition of NewTek's professional video/television production system. It's aimed at providing students with the feel of live television production, including support for mixing multiple camera feeds with titles and video clips. It also supports simultaneous distribution via the Web.

"In this economic landscape, it's difficult for elementary and middle schools to access dynamic and interactive solutions that teach students about live television production," said Michael Kornet, chief marketing officer for NewTek. "With TriCaster Duo, NewTek has provided the primary education market with portable live production at a truly barrier-breaking price combined with a best of breed brand--the award-winning TriCaster."

TriCaster Duo includes a curriculum "covering the basics of live newscast production is included with TriCaster DUO so instructors can quickly teach their students about producing live television," according to NewTek. The system is available now for North American educational institutions for $2,995.
