Oklahoma District Adopts Online Student Information System
Norman Public Schools in Oklahoma is deploying a new Web-based student information system district-wide. According to the district, the move is designed to provide real-time communications to parents about their children's performance and to help the district evaluate assessment data.
For the initiative, the district is using Infinite Campus. Infinite Campus manages student data through a centralized database that provides real-time information to teachers, administrators, and counselors. It allows parents and students to access assignments, grades, and attendance data through a Web interface. And it provides data warehousing, reporting, and data management for a range of K-12 information, including assessments, curricula, and special education.
"Providing real-time communication to parents was a top criterion when searching for a new SIS," said Christy Fisher, data processing manager for Norman Public Schools, in a prepared statement. "Infinite Campus provided us the best portal solution that will give our parents access to their student's attendance, assignments, grade information and more.
"We also wanted software with the ability to help us evaluate assessment data. Infinite Campus has an assessment tool that can be used seamlessly with our data. It also has the ability to include local assessments and ad hoc reporting for specialized analysis."
The deployment is expected to be completed late this summer.
