Colorado District Rolls Out Video on Demand to All Grades

Colorado's Lewis-Palmer School District is adopting video on demand as part of its multimedia instructional repertoire. The district has signed on with provider New Dimension Media to use its Core Curriculum Content! (CCC!) service in classrooms at all grade levels this fall.

CCC! consists of a library of classroom education-themed videos served to student computers or iPod. Video programs covering subjects including math, science, and history are correlated to state and Canadian standards and include content from National Geographic, Encyclopedia Brittanica, Reader's Digest, PBS, and others, as well as New Dimension Media's own offerings. Due to the load and quality issues inherent in delivery of video on demand to numerous simultaneous users, video content is hosted by a central server system installed at the district level rather than over the internet.

Lewis-Palmer School District in Monument and Colorado Springs, CO serves approximately 5,800 students in five elementary, one middle, and two high schools.

The video on demand system will be implemented in schools across the entire district. Said Annie Evans, director of instructional technology at New Dimension Media, LPSD "will be using Core Curriculum Content! in all eight schools, grades K-12. All students and teachers in the district will have access to CCC! The system will be up and running for the start of the new school year. Teachers in all grades will be incorporating video into their lessons to help students make visual connections to their learning."

"We're committed to preparing students and helping them succeed. CCC! and NDM's catalog of thousands of educational titles will be a great resource to help our teachers do just that," said Glenda Hawkinson, educational media specialist at Lewis-Palmer School District.
