Washington District Adopts LMS To Support 21st Century Learning Initiative

Seeking new avenues of alignment with its 21st century learning vision, Lake Washington School District has adopted online communication tools and learning activities personalized to student needs to its educational technology repertoire.

Planned 2010-2011 school year additions will include an online elementary electronic gradebook and report cards and interactive class Web sites accessed through the district Web site.

The district also chose RM Learning Platform by RM Education, citing the K-12 learning management system's functionality and customization features. RM Learning Platform provides content management, integration of school system data, and online communication features such as chat rooms, discussion boards, and information publishing in part through SharePoint, Microsoft's browser-based Web collaboration platform.

"Assuring that every student is future-ready and prepared for college, the global workplace and personal success when they graduate requires Lake Washington staff to have access to a content management system to facilitate the planning and delivery of personalized activities," said Chip Kimball, Lake Washington superintendent. "We have a lot of great programs in place but we needed a system that allowed us manage content delivery while building data systems to easily measure student growth and success and keep the entire community informed."

John Vaille, chief technology officer at Lake Washington School district, said, "RM Learning Platform was selected for a number of reasons. It provided the most functionality, is based on Microsoft SharePoint which is critical for our district and most importantly, we selected RM for their commitment to work with us to customize their solution to meet our specific needs."

Lake Washington School District No. 414 serves 31 elementary, 12 middle, and eight high schools enrolling more than 24,000 students in Kirkland, Redmond, and Sammamish, WA.
