Brief: GITEC Launches IT Scholarships

The Government Information Technology Executive Council (GITEC) has opened its 2011 awards program. Each year GITEC provides scholarships for up to eight high school students looking to pursue majors in IT-related disciplines, including computer science.

GITEC typically awards four to eight students scholarships of $2,000 to $4,000 each. Applicants must meet certain minimum criteria, including United States citizenship a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or greater, and must write a 500-word essay on the theme "Why am I interested in IT, and why am I a candidate for this scholarship?"

Applications are due Dec. 15. Recipients will be announced in January. Additional selection criteria and submission details can be found on GITEC's site here.
