Samsung Awards 50 Document Cameras to 2011 Grant Winners

Samsung Techwin has awarded 50 SAMCAM 860 digital presenters to the winners of its 2011 grant program.

To enter the program, teachers were asked to answer the question, “Will new technology in the classroom better prepare our students?"

"The power of the internet combined with a SAMCAM would open the worlds inside my students’ minds by enabling me to bring images, videos, or passages from science books and more, into my laboratory," said Todd Freer a winning teacher from Andrew Cooke Magnet School in Waukegan, IL.

"The addition of a document camera in our school would enhance the learning experience and provide an opportunity for all students to reach their educational destination," said Lori Sutton, who one a camera for her classroom at St. Joseph School in Pierre, SD. "From group editing and read-along activities to class play scripts and writing samples, students would be engaged in the learning process with a document camera."

"If a, 'picture is worth a thousand words,' then what is a word worth, and what is a video worth, and what is a demonstration worth?" asked April DeBord, a Samsung grant winner and a teacher at Smoky Mountain High School in Sylva, NC. "Pictures, videos, presentations, demonstrations and words are not just essential things, but pivotal moments in the classroom where you can capture a part of a student’s imagination that has never been captured before."

"The goal of this grant program is to help schools upgrade their technology tools to create a thriving learning environment for the students and to better prepare them for their future," said V.P. of Sales for Samsung Techwin's Electronic Imaging Division Richard Bellomy. "We were very excited to receive so many worthy grant requests from across the United States and I would like to congratulate all of the teachers who took the time to discuss the merits of how technology in the classroom better prepares our students."
