HP Ships Dual-Core Netbook for Education

The HP Mini 1104 sports an Intel Atom N2600 1.6 GHz dual-core processor.

HP has started shipping its new HP Mini 1104, a dual-core netbook designed specifically for K-12 education.

The HP Mini 1104 is the successor to the 14-month-old Mini 1103. The new model sports an Intel Atom N2600 dual-core processor running at 1.6 GHz. It offers 1 MB level-2 cache and a frontside bus speed of 800 MHz. The screen remains 10.1 inches with a resolution of 1,024 x 600 (WSVGA).

In its base configuration, the Mini 1104 includes:

  • 2 GB RAM (1,333 MHz DDR3 memory module occupying the unit's single SODIMM slot);
  • An internal 320 GB hard drive (5,400 RPM);
  • Spill-resistant, 93 percent full-size keyboard;
  • Intel Graphics Accelerator 3600;
  • Three-cell battery;
  • 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 + HS combo adapter;
  • Wired LAN (RJ-45);
  • SD card slot (SD, SDHC, SDXC);
  • Three USB 2.0 ports;
  • VGA out port;
  • Combo headphone and microphone port;
  • Integrated stereo speakers and mic;
  • Integrated VGA webcam; and
  • Various security features, including a lock slot, Infineon TPM 1.2 device, Computrace Persistence Module, and HP Keyed Cable Lock.

Optional configurations include HSPA+ mobile broadband, a six-cell battery with up to nine hours of life, an HP Notebook Combo Lock, and an external USB 2.0 DVD-RW drive.

The Mini 1104 measures 7.52" x 10.55" x 1.28" (at its thickest point) and weighs in at 2.78 pounds (in its base configuration).

The HP Mini 1104 is available now starting at $399. The model with un2430 EV-DO/HSDPA Mobile Broadband runs $469. Supported operating systems include Windows 7 (Pro, Home Premium, or Starter, all 32-bit) and FreeDOS. Additional details can be found on HP's site.
