Indiana Cyber Charter School Opens Statewide Enrollment
The statewide Indiana Cyber Charter School (IN Cyber) has opened its online doors for students in kindergarten through 12th grades.
The online educational facility uses Lincoln Interactive, already being accessed by "thousands of students worldwide," the school said, for a curriculum of online teaching tactics that include interactive videos, games, 3D graphics, language labs, and flash animation that students can use to personalize their learning experience from more than 250 course choices.
"This is an educational program unlike any other in the state," said IN Cyber School Board President Jan Myers in a news release announcing the 2012-2013 year online registration.
Lincoln's course offerings specifically include STEM-focused Cutting Edge Science courses, world languages and elective courses, and Little Lincoln, an online elementary curriculum. IN Cyber high school students also have the opportunity to earn college credit through Trina University's Middle College dual enrollment program that allows students to take courses that count for both high school and college credit.
IN Cyber, while physically headquartered in Schereville, IN, is open to students throughout the state. The online school is affiliated with the National Network of Digital Schools (NNDS), a non-profit management foundation for providing K-12 online curriculum and comprehensive management services to traditional brick-and-mortar schools, charter schools and cyber schools. NNDS also lends its financial support to educational initiatives for young people, the organization said.
IN Cyber follows NNDS' national model on a statewide basis by providing "student-centered services, the highest quality education and leading technology," said Myers. "Every student at IN Cyber receives and innovative, engaging and research-supported curriculum, academic enrichment services, counseling, career preparation, life skills, training and advanced learning opportunities, all tailored to fit academic and personal needs and goals."
