SpydrSafe Releases Beta of Mobile Data Loss Prevention App

SpydrSafe Mobile DLP is designed to prevent enterprise data loss on employee-owned devices.

A start-up formed by two long-time cyber-security industry executives has gone into beta with two new products, including a new security tool that prevents mobile data loss. SpydrSafe Mobile Security has launched an early version of SpydrSafe Mobile DLP (data loss prevention), intended to stop data loss by controlling the enterprise apps running on the mobile devices. The initial launch focuses on Android smartphones and tablets.

The second product is SpydrSafe Security Manager, a security management console used by IT administrators working with SpydrSafe Mobile to add and enroll new users, assign users to groups, assign policies, and access audit and reporting information.

Both products are delivered as "security as a service."

"Protecting corporate information on mobile devices presents enormous challenges for enterprise IT departments. The risk of data breaches is no longer solely an external threat as more employees use their own personal devices in the workplace," said Michael Pratt, chief executive officer. "SpydrSafe Mobile DLP addresses the issues created by BYOD [bring your own device] by providing enterprise IT the tools necessary to safeguard data that is accessed and used by mobile apps."

Pratt was the chief operating officer at CardStar, acquired in 2011 by Constant Contact. Previous to that, he was the chief financial officer for Trust Digital, acquired in 2010 by McAfee. The company's Chief Technology Officer, Kevin Sapp, was the VP of engineering for Trust Digital.

The Android app is available on either Google Play or Amazon Appstore for Android. The Security Manager application is available with registration on the company's Web site.
