SEP Revs Backup and Recovery Solution, Expands Support for Exchange, Vsphere, Xen

SEP Software released a new version of its backup and recovery solution, SEP sesam 4.0.5, at the Educause 2012 conference in Denver.

According to the company, its multistreaming technology sets SEP sesam apart from other backup and recovery solutions because it backs up data up to 25 times faster than traditional backup solutions and offers simple management and recovery tools.

SEP sesam boasts considerable flexibility that enables it to operate with a wide range of hardware and software, whether it is physical or virtual. SEP sesam uses generic drivers, so it can work with any hardware that is recognized by the operating system, and it can back up Linux, Microsoft, Solaris, and Mac OS systems, as well as databases and most groupware solutions. It also offers a direct plugin for NetApp.

According to the company, many educational institutions are using SEP sesam to back up their ever-expanding and heterogeneous IT environments, including virtual systems. SEP sesam can communicate directly with virtual hypervisor application programming interfaces (APIs), so it can create online snapshots of VMware, Citrix XenServer, Hyper-V, and Xen systems.

New features of SEP sesam 4.0.5 include:

  • New modules for Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp;
  • Expanded features for Exchange 2007 and 2010;
  • Unlimited multistreaming technology;
  • Full support for VMware Vsphere 5;
  • SEP Easy Archive; and
  • Customizable GUI.

SEP Software is showcasing SEP sesam 4.0.5 at booth 945 of the Educause 2012 conference, which runs Nov. 6-9 in Denver.

Further information about SEP sesam is available on SEP Software's site.
