Edmentum Updates Study Island with Additional Item Types

Edmentum has updated its Study Island test preparation tool to add nine item types aligned with the Common Core State Standards.

Designed "to help K-12 students master the content specified in state and Common Core standards and improve performance in core skill areas," Study Island provides immediate feedback, built in remediation, and actionable data to help teachers monitor student progress and differentiate instruction, according to the Edmentum Web site.

The new item types, including constructed response, fill-in-the-blank, and matched pairs, are designed to promote higher-order thinking and are compatible with mobile devices.

"Common Core represents a major change not only in what students are learning but how they must demonstrate their mastery of it," said Andy Frost, vice president of product management for Edmentum, in a prepared statement. "We've received a lot of interest from educators who are anxious to have access to tools that will help them prepare students for these Web-based assessments. The Study Island enhancements help ensure that both educators and students get ahead of the curve and are prepared for the more demanding assessments when they arrive."
