Macmillan Expands Full E-Book Catalog to Schools through OverDrive

Macmillan has moved beyond a pilot to test its e-book strategy in K-12 libraries to making its entire catalog available. The program is being run through Overdrive. Each book purchased through the program is available for sequential checkouts for a period of 12 months. Each title is $15 in the United States and $17 in Canada.

Overdrive is a digital distributor of e-books, audiobooks, music and video. The initial pilot that it ran with Macmillan offered 640 e-books.  That has now expanded to include 12,000 e-books.

Among the titles available are Night by Elie Wiesel, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, Killing Lincoln by Bill O'Reilly, The Lottery and Other Stories by Shirley Jackson and A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah.

"Macmillan offers a wide collection of children's and young-adult e-books perfect for the K-12 audience," said Karen Estrovich, Director of Collection Development at OverDrive. "We are thrilled that our U.S. and Canadian school partners will now have access to these titles, which are highly popular and often requested."

Among the customers using Overdrive's e-book service are Pleasant Valley School District in California, Crowley Independent School District in Texas and the Capital Region Board of Cooperative Educational Services School Library System in New York.
