Chalk.com Offers Private Professional Learning Platform for Educators

Vetica has launched Chalk.com, a new online community platform for educators. The announcement was made at the SXSWedu conference taking place this week in Austin, TX.

According to the company, Chalk.com is a private online collaborative environment. Schools and districts can use it to create private online communities for their teachers to communicate, collaborate and share resources.

Key features of Chalk.com include:

  • Ability to connect online with colleagues and school staff;
  • Tools for sharing lesson plans and teaching resources;
  • Notifications of school events;
  • Pacing guides for administrators to track curriculum progress;
  • Support for lesson plan templates; and
  • Statistics about teacher usage.

Chalk.com is integrated with Vetica's first product, Planboard, an online lesson planning tool for teachers. According to information from the company, using Planboard and Chalk.com together "enables teachers to share and collaborate on lesson plans with each other." Teachers can upload their lesson plans to share with colleagues, and they can provide feedback on each other's plans.

Administrators can use Planboard and Chalk.com "to track curriculum progress, provide lesson plan templates and get statistics about teacher usage," according to information on the company's site.

The company also plans to release a grading and assessment app, called Markboard, which will integrate with Planboard and Chalk.com and enable teachers to share student grades with the students and their parents.

Further information about Chalk.com is available on the site.
