Discovery Educator Network Launches Free Professional Development Tour

The Discovery Educator Network (DEN) is launching a series of free professional development opportunities designed to help teachers integrate educational technology into their classrooms.

The opportunities, collectively dubbed the 2014 DENapalooza tour, will take place in a dozen cities in the United States and Canada between March 29 and November 15.

"Each event will include a mixture of formal presentations by DEN team members and other experts, a lunch and an unconference experience," according to a Discovery Education news release. "During the DENapalooza unconferences, attendees will drive the conversation and discussions, choosing the topics they want to explore. In addition to immersive sessions on topics such as using educational technologies to drive student engagement and integrating digital media into classroom practice, attendees will network in a relaxed environment designed to maximize sharing and learning."

Cities scheduled for the tour include:

  • Washington D.C. on March 29;
  • Milwaukee, WI, April 5;
  • Ottawa, ON, April 12;
  • Edmonton, AB on May 3;
  • Austin, TX on May 17;
  • Wichita, KS, August 23;
  • Anaheim, CA on September 13;
  • Columbia, SC, September 20;
  • Vancouver, BC, September 27;
  • Birmingham, AL, October 4;
  • West Palm Beach, FL on November 8; and
  • Greensboro, NC, November 15.

"We are thrilled to provide a great networking, sharing and learning forum for dedicated educators who want to create dynamic digital learning environments for their students," said Lance Rougeux, vice president of learning communities at Discovery Education, in a prepared statement. "The DEN is committed to supporting educators around the world with access to valuable professional development that improves the efficacy of their teaching, and connects them to their most valuable resource — each other."
