Alberta District Rolling Out 5,000 Chromebooks This Summer
Wolf Creek Public Schools in central Alberta--between Edmonton and Calgary--will begin deploying thousands of Chromebooks this summer as part of a planned five-year rollout of netbooks and desktops.
More than 5,000 Acer C720 Chromebooks are being distributed ahead of time in preparation for the 2014-15 school year. Devices will be used for 1-to-1 classroom programs and computer labs throughout the middle and high school level, as well as in district learning centers.
The initiative will supplement an ongoing BYOD program already in place. The school district plans to implement a purchase program whereby parents can purchase devices through the district by making regular payments.
The five-year rollout is being coordinated with Acer, which is also providing the district with notebook PCs, desktops, and monitors for use in classrooms, learning labs, and by admins and staff.
