Baltimore County Public Schools Rolling Out 120,000 Notebooks for 1:1 Program
More than 120,000 students and teachers in Baltimore County Public Schools will receive HP Elite PCs as part of the district’s Students and Teachers Accessing Tomorrow (STAT) 1:1 digital learning program. BCPS awarded IT service provider Daly Computers a multiyear contract to deploy the hardware.
By August, the district will distribute the HP EliteBook Revolve 810 G2, a combination notebook computer and tablet, to all teachers and to students in grades one through three in its 10 lighthouse schools. Weighing in at just 3 pounds, the EliteBook runs on Windows 8.1 and has a keyboard, camera and a pivoting, HD 11.6-inch touchscreen. In addition, HP desktop PCs and charging carts will be used in classrooms, offices and libraries.
"This is a culture shift for BCPS," said Dallas Dance, superintendent, Baltimore County Public Schools, in a prepared statement. "For me, it is all about getting kids engaged and connected with learning by leveraging technology. One-to-one technology can extend educator capacity to engage students with tools that are intuitive to them, differentiate instruction and provide timely feedback to support more rigorous demands."
Beyond the hardware, BCPS's STAT initiative will include training for staff, students and the school community about the transition from traditional classroom instruction to a digital-learning landscape.
