3P Learning Launches Online Science Program

After testing its new online science curriculum in more than 100 classrooms in three countries, 3P Learning is launching its new middle school science software program, IntoScience, for global distribution. It is beginning with 137 schools in the San Francisco Bay area.

IntoScience, a companion program to the company's K-12 math resource, Mathletics, is targeting middle school students in grades 6-8.

With IntoScience, 3P Learning aspires to provide students with an online learning program that will allow them to engage in real-time scientific experiments. It incorporates 3D environments, real-time gaming, structured activities and, for teachers, lesson guides, assessment tools and reporting capabilities.

Among the features:

• The ability for each student to have a customizable avatar, research lab, observatory and access to more than 100 3D environments;
• The opportunity to use a telescopic camera to capture the phases of the moon;
• Tools to record data, graph and make predictions in student scientific experiments; and
• The ability for students to compete against one another in live multi-player science quizzes.

A Web-based program, IntoScience is accessible via browsers, desktop apps and tablets, as well as interactive whiteboards.

One of the teachers who was involved with the pilot testing, Rachel Hilario of St. Joseph's School in Mountain View, CA, said, "I was really excited by the fact that kids could play in an interactive world and integrate the science we are learning in the class."
