Microsoft recently announced a partnership with Cloud.com to help integrate its commercial hypervisor into the open source OpenStack project.
A new version of the free and open source learning management system ATutor has been released. Version 2.0.1 is primarily a maintenance update, although it does incorporate a number of functionality improvements as well.
Google wants to get middle and high school students interested in open source software, and the company is betting that a new "outreach contest" that includes cash prizes and a grand-prize trip to the Googleplex in California will appeal to budding programmers.

The free and open source learning management system OLAT has been updated to version 7.0. The latest release, which rolled out in late September, has gained a new course creation wizard and enhanced integration with external tools.
Following up on a commitment made at the time it acquired the two companies, Blackboard has announced that Collaborate, its new collaborative learning suite that taps into technology from Elluminate and Wimba, will work with competing learning management systems. This will allow Collaborate to pull user, course, and enrollment data from the various LMSes.
