Blackboard has added support for Common Core State Standards to its flagship learning management system, Blackboard Learn 9.1.
The state-run virtual schooling programs in South Carolina and Utah have adopted learning management systems based on the open source Moodle platform.

Following more than two years of development, the Moodle community has formally released Moodle 2.0, a major update to the popular open source learning management system.
Vigo County School Corp., a K-12 district in Terre Haute, IN, has adopted Follett Software's digital learning environment Cognite in an effort to consolidate digital resources and provide an easy-to-use collaborative learning system for its students and teachers.

Desire2Learn is integrating Microsoft's Live@edu service into its Learning Suite, an educational software package that includes a learning management system, electronic portfolio, learning repository, and analytics tool.
Education solutions provider it's learning has overhauled the pricing structure for its individual student-centered learning platform. Effective immediately, the platform will be available to all K-12 schools throughout North America for $995 per individual school building or facility.

Adobe has launched a new multimedia authoring tool for education. Dubbed Project Rome, the hosted service (also available as a desktop AIR app) went into public preview Sunday morning. Adobe said it's looking for schools to participate in pilot programs using the software, especially those schools that have adopted Google's Apps for Education or the open source learning management system Moodle.
A new version of the free and open source learning management system ATutor has been released. Version 2.0.1 is primarily a maintenance update, although it does incorporate a number of functionality improvements as well.
The free and open source learning management system OLAT has been updated to version 7.0. The latest release, which rolled out in late September, has gained a new course creation wizard and enhanced integration with external tools.
Blackboard is expanding the parameters of its professional services beyond technical services and training. The company recently announced that it would offer its clients consulting help specifically in planning and deploying mobile solutions. The company also announced version 9.x of Learn, launched in January 2009, has been more widely adopted than any other version of its learning management system and is now in use by 1,000 organizations.
