Intel Expands Reach of Technology Teaching Program

Intel's teacher technology development program, Teach to the Future, is now open to all experienced K-12 teachers and preservice faculty in the United States.

Sponsored in part by Microsoft, Teach to the Future was created by teachers and built on a proven model that trains teachers how, when and where to incorporate technology tools and resources into their current lesson plans and align them with district, state and national standards. Since 2000, the program has helped more than 200,000 teachers worldwide integrate technology more effectively into the classroom. The goal of the program is to provide free training to 500,000 teachers in 24 countries, including 100,000 in the United States, by the end of 2002.

Teachers enrolled in the program are trained to teach other teachers how to develop a complete collection of themed lesson plans that engage students in the use of technology for research, compiling information and communicating with others. The program incorporates the Internet, Web page design and productivity software to encourage higher-order thinking and creativity from students.

For preservice faculty, the free, four-day hands-on training provides integration strategies, resources, model lesson plans, and ongoing support in one comprehensive and easily accessible curriculum guide. Faculty are provided with the tools they need to encourage preservice students to use technology to collect data and resources, work in teams and develop lesson plans to meet challenging standards. The curriculum allows preservice students to compile electronic portfolios to demonstrate their knowledge of technology integration.
