Students Compare Math, Science Skills Online
K-12 students can test their math and science skills against peers worldwide through The Council of Competitiveness' new free site, Getsmarter.org. The site was designed under the guidance of Alfred Berkeley, vice chair of The Nasdaq Stock Market Inc. and Richard Atkinson, president of the University of California, to improve math and science education.
Students who logon to the site can take The Real Challenge, a test similar to that administered to students for the Third International Mathematics and Science Study. Visitors instantly and confidentially receive their test results, along with how they compare to other students worldwide. Tutorials on the site help students improve math and science skills. In addition, high school students can click on MSTV (Math and Science Television), which offers real-world examples of math and science in action, with different modules that let students dig deeper to find as little or as much information as they like.
