Grassroots Effort Addresses Public School Challenges

Along with the new school year came the formation of the largest-ever grassroots mobilization for public education. The National Mobilization for Great Public Schools (www.greatpublicschools.org) is a combined effort of organizations such as the NEA, MoveOn.org, ACORN, NAACP Voter Fund, and the U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute to address problems of the NCLB Act and its funding, as well as broader challenges facing U.S. public schools. On Sept. 22, thousands of teachers, parents and concerned citizens met at various locations across the county to discuss ways to spark the great mobilization needed to persuade the nation to make education a top priority.
