Making Strides with Educational Data

One-stop portal. The final resource we are developing is the Pennsylvania Educational Portal, which will give teachers, administrators, students, and parents access to content-rich information portlets and communications resources— a comprehensive one-stop shop source for K-12 and higher education, workforce development, and lifelong learning. The portal will act like an intranet on the emerging statewide broadband system, linking all local educational agencies to each other and to the PDE. Because of this, we are better able to share evidence-based model practices, tools, and resources, instead of reinventing practices in this era of limited time, budgets, and personnel.

Together, these components of our academic infrastructure will enable the many education stakeholders throughout Pennsylvania to access timely, high quality, and relevant information to support student learning. Our work to establish systemic enterprise-wide leadership, systems, and resources will provide the tools through which we can help all of Pennsylvania’s students succeed.

With the proper planning, training, and support, using information in education can be a great journey— just like running a marathon. It is the continuous assessment and timely, high-quality indicator data along the way that will keep us on the right path, at the right speed to the right goal: student learning.
