Maryland Educator Named School CIO of the Year

John Q. Porter, deputy superintendent for Strategic Technologies and Accountability for Montgomery County Public Schools in Rockville, MD, was named School CIO of the Year by Public CIO magazine and SchoolNet (www.schoolnet.com) at the EduStat Summit in June. Porter was unanimously chosen by a panel of judges for his initiatives to launch a system in 2001 to help support improvement plans within his district’s 192 schools, as well as for increasing the availability of reliable, up-to-date technology to teachers and students.
