Citations Tool Discourages Online Plagiarism
In an effort to curb Internet plagiarism and show students that online works should be treated like those in print, GuruNet (www.gurunet.com) has launched a citations tool on its free answer-based search engine, Answers.com, which, in just one click, enables users to cite the information they find on the Web site. The tool automatically produces bibliography entries for the site’s collection of more than a million topics, drawn from a database of over 100 reference sources. The new feature displays a “Cite” button next to each copyright at the bottom of all Answers.com pages. Users can choose the sources they’ve used in their work, click the button, and be directed to a page with the fully formatted citation ready for copying. The tool even offers users a choice of citation styles, including MLA, Chicago, or APA. The company is now offering a free downloadable poster that highlights Web resource citation guidelines for anyone who logs on to www.answers.com/main/citations.jsp.
