Indiana Science Teacher Wins Computer System from T.H.E.
Troy Harris, an eighth-grade science teacher at Tri-West Middle School in
Lizton, IN, was awarded a Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook computer and
Photo All-in-One 962 printer for winning T.H.E. Journal’s “Win a Laptop
Computer System Contest.”
“I was extremely grateful when I learned that I was the winner of the computer
system, and plan to use it in my classroom as a resource, so my students can do
research or Internet scavenger hunts,” says Harris. The contest required educators
to visit T.H.E.’s Educational Technology Information Center Web site
(www.edtechinfocenter.com) and submit a product review. To enter the contest,
Harris chose to send in his review on a Sony Mavica digital camera because its easeof-
use made it ideal for him to integrate it into his classroom. “The ETIC site is a
great resource to get opinions from other educators,” says Harris. “Our tech staff
also uses it to help select the technologies that best meet the needs of our school.”
A teacher for nine years at Tri-West, Harris is also a teacher-leader for a project
that helps teachers find resources to meet academic standards called the PRISM
Project (www.rose-prism.org).
