Scantron Names New President

Tim Loomer has been named president of Scantron Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of John H. Harland Co. Since joining Scantron in 1996, Loomer has held a number of senior executive positions—most recently serving as president of Scantron’s testing and assessment division, where he was responsible for establishing and executing the company’s K-12 strategy. He transformed the division’s products and services to create an organization that is focused exclusively on technology-driven test delivery and reporting platforms for K-12 education. Loomer earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington and has an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he participated in the Sloan Fellowship Program…

KANA Donates Computers to Oakland Community

KANA Software Inc., a leader in multichannel customer service, has donated more than 150 computer systems to the Eastmont Computing Center (ECC) in Oakland, CA. The center offers outreach and computer training to disadvantaged and at-risk youths in one of Oakland’s most challenged neighborhoods. ECC is part of OCCUR, a leading nonprofit organization that has provided economic development and sustainability programs to Oakland’s communities for more than 50 years. KANA decided to donate viable computers that were scheduled for upgrades to ECC as the best way to empower a disenfranchised community which typically has not had access to such modern equipment. The donated computers, part of KANA’s ongoing commitment to community involvement, will be used in ECC’s learning lab and given away to needy families in the community…

Louisiana Parishes Among First to Adopt New PLATO Learning Environment

Lafourche Parish Public Schools and St. James Parish Schools in Louisiana have selected the new PLATO Learning Environment for their computer-based assessment and instruction. Together, the agreements totaled more than $900,000. The PLATO Learning Environment, released in June 2006 and licensed on a subscription basis via an internet application service provider (ASP), integrates key aspects of the educational process—managing and delivering online courses and instructional content, assessing student progress and prescribing individualized instruction, managing standards, and reporting and analyzing data.
