EduTone Integrates Virtual Appliance Platform

##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->

VIP Tone has announced a partnership with rPath that uses the company's rBuilder and rPath Appliance Platform to distribute and maintain VIP Tone's EduTone Gateway virtual appliance.

According to VIP Tone, the EduTone Gateway provides single sign-on identity management and Web services to the K-20 market and is designed to streamline system management and administration. Using rBuilder allows VIP Tone to automate the creation of its virtual appliance, ensuring consistency among system images. The rPath Appliance Platform offers total lifecycle management for EduTone, from deployment to configuration to updating.

"Until now, data driven systems in K-20 education have been managed manually, one at a time," said Robert Iskander, CEO, VIP Tone, in a prepared statement.  "The rPath virtual appliance route enables us to automate software distribution, rapidly deploy our platform as well as update and maintain deployments globally in a streamlined environment.  We can even have an initial deployment operational within a few hours time."

The EduTone Gateway appliance provides a complete authentication infrastructure and integrates SIS and HR data with user ID and credentialing information. According to VIP Tone, the system's secure lifecycle management also helps improve overall security for school networks.

In other VIP Tone news, the company has announced a partnership with MuseGlobal that will deliver search functionality for the company's EduTone Ecosystem.

EduTone Search--powered by MuseGlobal's federated search technology--will allow users to search multiple content sources simultaneously, using a single query. According to the announcement, EduTone Search will include federated search across free channels, including Eric, the Library of Congress, and Verizon's Thinkfinity, among others. Add-on sources include Encyclopedia Britannica, Ebsco, and Learn 360. Other sources are also available.
