NEC Launches Short-Throw LCD Projectors

NEC Display Solutions of America this week launched two new short-throw projectors, the NP500WS and NP600S. Both are designed for mounting and projecting on the same wall with automatic keystone correction to produce square images.

Designed for classrooms and conference rooms, the new models can project a 77-inch image (diagonal) from 46 inches from the wall. The wide-screen NP500WS offers a native resolution of 1,200 x 800 and a brightness rating of 2,100 lumens. The NP600S offers a resolution of 1,024 x 768 and a brightness rating of 2,600 lumens. both offer a 600:1 contrast ratio.

Other features in common between the different models include:

  • Automatic power on when a signal is detected through the RGB port;
  • 4,000 hours of lamp life in economy mode;
  • "AutoSenseT" for signal synchronization plus one-touch image optimization;
  • Remote diagnostics capabilities;
  • VGA and DVI-I inputs;
  • Networking capabilities via RJ-45;
  • Support for closed captioning; and
  • A "Virtual Remote" function for controlling the projector via computer without additional cables.

Both of the models are expected to be available in April. Each will sell for $1,199. There are incentives for education users under NEC's Star Student program. Further information about the projectors can be found here.
