Memphis Expands Digital Media Programming
Memphis City Schools is expanding its digital media offerings to all of its schools. The district is now providing Discovery Education streaming to more than 180 schools and has also signed on with Discovery to provide customized professional development for its teachers.
Discovery Education streaming is a digital media service specifically for schools that offers more than 5,000 full-length videos and 50,000 clips, as well as other resources, including photography, reference articles, curriculum development, assignment creation, and test creation tools. Content is aligned to state standards and searchable by keyword, grade level, and other parameters.
The district has also partnered with Discovery to provide in person and online professional development services to help teachers learn how to "integrate digital media across the curriculum to enhance lessons and further engage students," according to information released by Discovery.
"Memphis educators depend on high-quality digital media to improve student achievement in the classroom," said Kriner Cash, Memphis City Schools superintendent, in a prepared statement. "We are pleased to continue our partnership with Discovery Education. The organization's combination of stimulating media and impactful, consistent professional development empowers educators to improve student achievement."
Memphis City Schools serves about 110,000 students in 112 elementary schools, 36 middle schools, 35 high schools, and 26 additional centers and programs. The district employs more than 6,000 full-time teachers.
