Free Lecture Capture Software Coming to the Mac

Panopto is adding native Mac recording to its lecture capture platform, CourseCast. The new tool, Macintosh Recorder, is currently in private beta and is expected to be released to subscribers of Socrates Premium Services, as well as hosted and corporate subscribers, in May.
CourseCast is designed for capturing, editing, and streaming audio and video from lectures and other presentations over the Web. Captured materials can be searched, linked, and annotated through the software, and recorded materials can be embedded in popular course management systems.
Through Panopto's Socrates program, CourseCast is available to academic institutions for free in exchange for those institutions participating in beta programs aimed at further enhancing the software.
According to Panopto, the forthcoming Macintosh Recorder will provide the same user experience as the Windows version, "which includes automatic capture of course material, start / stop faculty controls, online and offline recording, automatic indexing, encoding and production to student portals and [learning management systems]."
Following May's beta release, the full, commercial release of Macintosh Recorder is expected to be available some time in the summer.
