New Crestron HDMI Extenders Transmit HD Video More Than 300 Feet


The HD-EXT1-C features an IR repeater and bi-directional RS-232 transmission.

Crestron has launched two extenders that transmit HD video signals to distances of up to 330 feet without compressing the signal.

The extenders, dubbed the HD-EXT1-C and the HD-EXT2-C, use a sending and receiving unit to deliver video with resolution up to 2,048 x 1,152 progressive over a shielded twisted pair cable.  In addition to hi-resolution video, the extenders also transmit 7.1 channel HD audio and 3D video.

The HD-EXT1-C offers a built in IR repeater and the ability to send bi-directional RS-232 signals, while the HD-EXT2-C can extend analog audio over an additional twisted pair cable.

Both extenders support High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP), Deep Color, Consumer Electronics Control (CEC), and Extended Display Identification Data (EDID).

Ports on the transmitting and receiving units of HD-EXT1-C include:

  • HDMI in and out;
  • Two RS-232 ports;
  • RJ-45 LAN; and
  • IR.

The HD-EXT2-C's ports include:

  • HDMI in and out;
  • Stereo minijack;
  • 2 stereo RCA jacks out;
  • RJ-45 LAN.

A DIP slide switch that allows for hot plug detection and led indicators for power, AV link, and the HDCP signal are standard features on both models.

The HD-EXT1-C and the HD-EXT2-C are currently available through authorized Crestron dealers.
