Next Generation of LG Network Monitors Use Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 for Virtualization

LG Electronics this week unveiled its next generation of network monitors, the U Series, at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC).

The LG U Series are desktop monitors with built-in networking that connect to a host PC running Windows MultiPoint Server 2011. Depending on the capacity of the host PC, up to 15 monitors can connect to a single host. The monitors connect with a USB cable, while processing power of the host is distributed across the network monitors.

LG is targeting the U Series at educational institutions. In environments where students use computers primarily for Internet access, multimedia applications, and word processing, they do not require the full processing power of a standalone PC. This type of virtualization enables schools to provide computer access to more students because the cost of hardware, operation, and maintenance can be lower than it would be for the equivalent number of standalone PCs.

The LG U Series network monitors are operational out of the box, without any additional software installation. The system setup and management is also designed to be simple enough for a nontechnical user to set up.

Key features of the LG U Series network monitors include:

  • 19-inch class LED widescreen (18.5 inches measured diagonally);
  • IEEE 1680 Gold rating; and
  • Support for independent optimization of each monitor in different languages.
